With a 5 month swimming season, the Lake Balaton is one of the favourite swimming lakes all over Europe. In the year 2004 and again in 2017 Balatongyörök got the distinction of the “Blue Flag” for extraordinary clean water-quality. The big lido offers sportive guests the possibility of windsurfing, sailing, boating, tennis, minigolf and a lot of other activities. The kids enjoy a lot of different play-grounds inclusing a big waterslide and interesting animations.
The little harbour in Balatongyörök gives you the opportunity to reach a lot of places of interest by boat. From this harbour, the popular “Disco boat” starts during the main season on two days a week.
The new built cycling track with a total length of 210km, connects the various little villages around the lake. So you can easily reach water-ski-possibilities, the famous ruins of Szigliget and the world famous Eszterhazy wine-cellar, the Afrika-museum or the “Basalt Organs of Badacsony”, all worth to be visited.
Try to find the path of the seven-sleepers. This are interested marked walking paths trough the forest, which bring you various sightseeing-points, such as Csodabogyos caves which you can explore with guided tours with helmet and lantern on your head.
If you want to see Balatongyörök with the eye of a bird, there are flights with little aircrafts as well as with ultra-light-trikes.
Of course you can explore the region on the back of a horse.
Friends of fish catching will find thousands of wonderful places for their hobby on the idyllic shores of the lake. You can buy a fishing license at the lido.
Since 2015 there is also a possibility to play golf. There is a nice 9 hole golf course nearby.
